After a buffet lunch, Chapter Regent Mrs. Geri Craig introduced the students and their guests. Former chapter Regent Mrs. Carolyn Black pinned the DAR Good Citizen pin on each winner. Certificates of honor were given to the school representatives to be presented on awards day at each school.

Students had the option of also participating in an essay contest to receive scholarship money. DAR Good Citizen Committee Chairman Mrs. Shan Russell presented the students who participated in the essay contest with the book "John Adams" by David McCollough. This book will be placed in each school's library in honor of the student. Mrs. Shan Russell read excerpts from each student’s essay. The Francis Marion Chapter essay winner was Mr. Marlan James Golden from Alabama Christian Academy who read his essay in it’s entirety.

The DAR Good Citizens program and Scholarship Contest is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. The program is open to all senior class students enrolled in accredited public or private secondary schools who are in good standing with their state boards of education.
