Mrs. Carolyn Black was recognized for her extraordinary volunteer efforts with the First United Methodist Church and The Montgomery Area Council on Aging (MACOA). Dr. Karl Stegall, president of Stegall Seminary Scholarship Endowment Trust, says that Mrs. Black stepped forward to volunteer for anything needed at the church. She chaired the Annual Bazaar that raised over $35000 and given back to various charities in the community.
Dr. Lawson Bryant, current senior minister at First United Methodist Church, said she led the church's "New Member Dessert Party" to welcome new members of the church. She also volunteered every week to prepare newsletters to be mailed to each member of their congregation. She is known as one who can be called upon at any time to assist with projects that help others.
Mr. Richard Heinzman, Executive Director of MACOA, said that Mrs. Black has served as a volunteer extraordinaire for the Montgomery Area Council on Aging for over 12 years. Her leadership and personal involvement were the catalysts for several advances in services to senior citizens of the Montgomery area. Her leadership skills and exceptional ability to deal with others clearly make her and exceptional community volunteer.
The DAR Community Service Award recognizes worthy residents, from a variety of walks of life, for voluntary achievements in cultural, educational, humanitarian, patriotic, historical, and citizenship endeavors, or in environmental conservation. A DAR member may qualify providing that the community service she performed was unrelated to her DAR activities. Mrs. Black is a former Regent of the Francis Marion Chapter NSDAR.
