The January meeting of the Francis Marion Chapter included guest speaker Dr. Benjamin Williams. He was introduced by his wife and DAR member Mrs. Marilyn Williams. Dr. Williams was involved in active combat during World War II and retired as a colonel in the U.S. Air Force. He taught English at the University level and is an author of numerous papers on both literature and history.
Dr. Williams told the story of General Lafeyette and the Battle of Yorktown. He presented background information on the battle, listing conflicts that led up to Yorktown. Dr. Williams stressed the involvement of the French General Lafayette and the importance of his contribution to the battle for our American independence.
