The Francis Marion Chapter NSDAR welcomed guest speaker Dr. Charles Ingalls to the October luncheon and meeting. Dr. Ingalls spoke on the changes in Vascular Medicine since the Revolutionary War. He spoke of the primitive nature of surgery and specifically the numbers of soldiers who lost their lives with arterial wounds because doctors did not have the knowledge to operate on the arteries. It wasn’t until the early to mid 20th century that doctors were able to make advances in vascular medicine and surgery.
Dr. Ingalls also spoke of the dangers of aneurisms and some techniques he uses today that save lives. Dr. Ingalls mesmerized the group with his fascinating discussion of vascular medicine.
Daughter Mary Riggles was the program director and gave the introduction for Dr. Ingalls at the meeting. Thank you to Daughter Shannon Torode for the above picture.
