Good Citizen Awards 2011

The Francis Marion Chapter National Daughters of the American Revolution recently honored local students as DAR Good Citizens. Seven high school seniors were recognized for their outstanding qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism.

A lunch buffet was served with members and guests dining on delicious items such as fish, flank steak and vegetables. An assortment of desserts were available with the group's all time favorite bread pudding available. Chapter Regent Mrs. Geri Craig introduced the students and their guests and began the program.

The DAR Good Citizens attending the luncheon hosted by The Francis Marion Chapter NSDAR were (left to right) Miss Whitney Lott from Trinity Presbyterian School, Miss Amber Voss from Edgewood Academy, Mr. William Whitt of Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School, Miss Ashley Weston from South Montgomery County Academy, Miss Allyson Argo from Saint James School,
Miss Meredith Paul from Alabama Christian Academy, and (back row) Mr. Keonte Graves from Stanhope-Elmore High School.

Former chapter Regent Mrs. Carolyn Black pinned the DAR Good Citizen pin on each winner. Certificates of honor were given to the school representatives to be presented on awards day at each school.

Students also had the option of also participating in an essay contest to receive scholarship money. DAR Good Citizen Committee Chairman Mrs. Shan Russell and chapter Vice President Mrs. Sally Furlow presented the students who participated in the essay contest with two books about the Constitution of the United States. These books will be placed in each school's library in honor of the student. Mrs. Shan Russell then read excerpts from each student’s essay. The Francis Marion Chapter 2011 essay winner was Miss Allyson Argo from Saint James School. After a brief introduction, Miss Argo read her essay in it's entirety.
