Alabama State Regent Inducts New Officers of Francis Marion Chapter

The Francis Marion Chapter NSDAR was honored to have the Alabama state regent Connie Grund as guest speaker at the chapter luncheon in May.  Madame Regent Grund spoke of upcoming events in the Alabama state DAR.  In 2014 it will be the 120th anniversary of the Alabama Society and 110 years for the Francis Marion Chapter.  There will be a special birthday party at next year's state convention.

Madame Regent Grund also told stories of visiting other state conventions around the country.  A funny story was when she went to the New York state convention and wore her antebellum style dress to a themed party.  She joked about bringing Dixie to the north.

Other topics mentioned were plans for DAR to celebrate Armed Forces Day at the USS Alabama battleship, a program called Mary's Mission that helps homeless veterans have proper burial arrangements and how the DAR lays wreaths on military graves.

At the end of the meeting Madame State Regent Grund installed the new officers of Francis Marion Chapter NSDAR.
