Pocahontas Visits Chapter Meeting

A very special guest visited the the January 2013 Francis Marion Chapter meeting.  The famous native American princess Pocahontas described what it was like to encounter the English settlers for the first time.  She also talked about life in the new colony and how at a very young age she taught her self how to speak and read English and became quite the diplomat.  Francis Marion member, Dr. Lexi Turnipseed, did an excellent job portraying Pocahontas at the event.

The hostess committee decorated each table with a teepee centerpiece.  Hostess Chairman Mary Riggles explained that her grandchildren decorated the teepees from a kit she ordered online and each teepee represented someone in "their village."  There were also turkey feathers, indian corn and greenery to add to the centerpieces.  Other hostesses included Geri Craig, Wynn Harris, and Bette Hayes.
